LIFE IN TAKIKAWA - Task 3

LIFE IN TAKIKAWA    Ideas; Becoming more independent, Moving to Takikawa, Discovering new things,  Living alone; Visiting local places.   Summarize your composition with a photograph.  Task 1 – The challenges of living alone .   Write about the challenges of living alone and make comparisons to your high school days. Things to consider: living expenses, cleaning, cooking, shopping, roommates, privacy, time management, what surprised you? Things you miss about home,  Challenges.   LIFE IN TAKIKAWA:  In this task you will write about  becoming more independent, moving to Takikawa, discovering new things, living alone; visiting local places.  Students should summarize their composition with a photograph.  Plan your composition using notes.  (When you use notes you do not need to write sentences.) Spend about 20 -30 minutes planning  before you begin writing. 

Four main types of writing

There are four main types of writing: expository, persuasive, narrative, and descriptive. Expository – Writing in which author’s purpose is to inform or explain the subject to the reader. Persuasive – Writing that states the opinion of the writer and attempts to influence the reader.   Narrative – Writing in which the author tells a story. The story could be fact or fiction. Descriptive – A type of expository writing that uses the five senses to paint a picture for the reader. This writing incorporates imagery and specific details.

Descriptive writing

The primary purpose of descriptive writing is to describe a person, place or thing in such a way that a picture is formed in the reader's mind. Capturing an event through descriptive writing involves paying close attention to the details by using all of your five senses. Teaching students to write more descriptively will improve their writing by making it more interesting and engaging to read.

Naritve writing

A  narrative  or  story  is a report of connected events, real  or imaginary , presented in a sequence of written or spoken words, or still or moving images  or both. The word derives from the Latin verb  narrare , "to tell", which is derived from the adjective  gnarus , "knowing" or "skilled".

Persuasive writing

A persuasive writing tries to convince the reader that a particular point of view is worthy of consideration. It wants you to consider both sides of an issue, but it reveals a bias in favor of one side over another. Facts may be presented in support of a position, but the writer is not being objective. The point of view is subjective.

Expository writing

Expository writing  is writing that has a purpose of explaining, informing, or describing. In other words,  expository writing  is about providing information to the reader about a particular topic or subject. The purpose of  expository writing  differs from creative writing or persuasive writing. The purpose is merely to inform-to provide information. Examples; Crash This morning at 9am, a school bus collided with a car at the intersection of Jones and Heard streets. There were no injuries on the school bus, but medical personnel performed checks on each student and the driver before those students were transported to their schools. The driver of the car sustained slight, non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the local hospital. The accident is still under investigation at this time. English writing 2018

This is a one semester course of 15 weeks.   Introduction :  Wherever possible, the teacher should encourage note-taking, and dictations to teach points rather than handouts.  The students should begin working at their individual pace, i.e., the teacher should not be controlling the class at one pace.  By about week 3: when the teacher enters the classroom, the students should begin work without direction.  Writing class means they write.  We are encouraging autonomous learning.  Once the teacher starts making corrections, it is advisable to have students working on another writing task.  Also, make corrections to the first section of their paper to avoid holdups.  The teachers primary task will be to support students through making recommendations and corrections.  Week 1 – level check and stream students.  All teachers work together and stream students.   Introduction: Modules 1 & 2 (weeks 1 – 5) Objectives :...
